ABSTRACT

Decidual macrophages (dMϕs) play critical roles in regulation of immune-microhomeostasis at maternal-fetal interface during pregnancy, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are still unclear. In this study, it was found that litter size and fetal weight were significantly reduced, whereas the rate of embryo resorption was increased in miR-3074-5p knock-in (3074-KI) pregnant mice, compared to that of wild-type (WT) pregnant mice. Plasma levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in 3074-KI pregnant mice were also significantly elevated compared to WT pregnant mice at GD7.5. The quantity of M1-Mϕs in uterine tissues of 3074-KI pregnant mice was significantly increased compared to WT pregnant mice at GD13.5. Estrogen receptor-α (ERα) was validated to be a target of miR-3074-5p. Either miR-3074-5p overexpression or ERα knockdown promoted transcriptional activity of NF-κB/p65, induced M1-polarization and pyroptosis of THP1-derived Mϕs, accompanied with increased intracellular levels of cleaved Caspase-1, cleaved IL-1ß, NLRP3, cleaved GSDMD and ASC aggregation. Furthermore, ERα could not only bind to NLRP3 or ASC directly, but also inhibit the interaction between NLRP3 and ASC. The endometrial miR-3074-5p expression level at the middle secretory stage of repeated implantation failure (RIF) patients was significantly decreased compared to that of control fertile women. These data indicated that miR-3074-5p could promote M1 polarization and pyroptosis of Mϕs via activation of NLRP3 inflammasome by targeting ERα, and the dysregulation of miR-3074-5p expression in dMϕs might damage the embryo implantation and placentation by interfering with inflammatory microenvironment at the maternal-fetal interface during early pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Many patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis experience one or multiple symptoms. Using a latent profile analysis to identify symptom profiles may provide insights for person-centered symptom management strategies. METHODS: This is a longitudinal study based on data from patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis at three hospitals in Shanghai, China. Of the 448 patients who completed the surveys at baseline (T1), 309 completed the 12-month follow-up survey (T2). Symptoms and quality of life were measured by the Chinese version of Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36 Short Form. The optimal classification of symptoms was identified using latent profile analysis. RESULTS: Five symptom profiles were identified: High (9.2%), Fatigue and Gastrointestinal (7.1%), Fatigue and Skin (10.7%), Skin (23.2%), and Low (49.8%). The high-symptom profile and the-fatigue-and-skin-symptom profile were associated with a lower level of physical functioning, a higher burden of kidney disease, and more negative effects of kidney disease than the low symptom profile at T1 and T2. Multivariate regression analysis showed that the high-symptom profile predicted a poorer physical functioning at T2, and the-fatigue-and-skin-symptom profile predicted a poorer physical functioning and higher burden of kidney disease at T2. CONCLUSION: Patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis reported unique symptom experiences which could be classified into different profiles. Patients reporting an overall high level of symptoms or a high level of fatigue and skin symptoms were more likely to have a poorer quality of life.

ABSTRACT

Although empathy for pain plays an important role in positive interpersonal relationships and encourages engagement in prosocial behavior, it remains largely unknown whether empathy for pain could be effectively altered by psychophysiological techniques. This study aimed to investigate the impact of a single session of diaphragmatic breathing practice on empathy for pain and examine the potential mechanism involving interoceptive awareness. A total of 66 healthy participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group or the control group. The intervention group received a 15-minute diaphragmatic breathing (DB) practice with real-time biofeedback, while the control group was to gaze at a black screen at rest and not engaged in any other activities. Before and after the invention, all participants were instructed to evaluate the intensity and unpleasantness of empathy for pain while watching different pictures with pain or non-pain conditions. The Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA) was then administered to measure interoceptive awareness. The results indicated a significant interaction between group and time with regard to empathy for pain and MAIA. The DB group showed a statistically significant decrease in both pain intensity and unpleasantness during the pain picture condition, as well as a noteworthy increase in MAIA scores. The control group did not demonstrate any substantial changes. More importantly, the regulation of attention, a dimension of MAIA, had a significant mediating effect on the impact of diaphragmatic breathing on reported unpleasantness. Diaphragmatic breathing could serve as a simple, convenient, and practical strategy to optimize human empathy for pain that warrants further investigation, which has important implications not only for individuals with impaired empathy for pain but also for the improvement of interoceptive awareness.

ABSTRACT

Infective bone defect is increasingly threatening human health. How to achieve the optimal antibacterial activity and regenerative repair of infective bone defect simultaneously is a huge challenge in clinic. Herein, this work reports a rational integration of Mn single-atom nanozyme into the 3D-printed bioceramic scaffolds (Mn/HSAE@BCP scaffolds). The integrated Mn/HSAE@BCP scaffolds can catalyze the conversion of H2 O2 to produce hydroxyl radical (• OH) and superoxide anion (O2 •- ) through cascade reaction. Besides, the prominent thermal conversion efficiency of Mn/HSAE@BCP scaffolds can be utilized for sonodynamic therapy (SDT). The synergetic strategy of chemodynamic therapy (CDT)/SDT enables the sufficient generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to kill Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) or Escherichia coli (E. coli). Furthermore, the enhanced antibacterial efficacy of Mn/HSAE@BCP scaffolds is beneficial to upregulate the expression of osteogenesis-related markers (such as collagen 1(COL1), Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), osteocalcin (OCN), and osteoprotegerin (OPG)) in vitro and further promote bone regeneration in vivo. The results demonstrate the good potential of Mn/HSAE@BCP scaffolds for the enhanced antibacterial activity and bone regeneration, which provide an effective method for the treatment of clinical infective bone defect.

ABSTRACT

The use of precise epitope peptides as antigens is essential for accurate serological diagnosis of viral-infected individuals, but now it remains an unsolvable problem for mapping precise B cell epitopes (BCEs) recognized by human serum. To address this challenge, we propose a novel epitope delimitation (ED) method to uncover BCEs in the delineated human IgG-reactive (HR) antigenic peptides (APs). Specifically, the method based on the rationale of similarities in humoral immune responses between mammalian species consists of a pair of elements: experimentally delineated HR-AP and rabbit-recognized (RR) BCE motif and corresponding pair of sequence alignment analysis. As a result of using the ED approach, after decoding four RR-epitomes of human papillomavirus types 16/18-E6 and E7 proteins utilizing rabbit serum against each recombinant protein and sequence alignment analysis of HR-APs and RR-BCEs, 19 fine BCEs in 17 of 22 known HR-APs were defined based on each corresponding RR-BCE motifs, including the type-specificity of each delimited BCE in homologous proteins. The test with 22 known 16/20mer HR-APs demonstrated that the ED method is effective and efficient, indicating that it can be used as an alternative method to the conventional identification of fine BCEs using overlapping 8mer peptides.

ABSTRACT

Reactive nitrogen (Nr) pollution has changed radically accompanied by severe intensive farming. This pollution further contributes to ecological degradation and climate warming. Despite this recognition, little is known about the spatial pattern of various Nr loss from croplands and corresponding environmental costs. Here, we identified the major pathway of Nr loss based on provincial estimates in 2008 and 2018, and validated by synchronous observation of ammonia volatilization, N runoff and N leaching using historical literature synthesis. We also evaluated environmental costs at provincial scale and detected the influence factors that dominating the pollution swapping among different Nr forms. Our results show that the total Nr loss was 6.28 ± 1.81 and 5.56 ± 2.30 Tg N yr-1 for Chinese croplands in 2008 and 2018. Ammonia volatilization, which accounted for more than half of the total Nr at the national scale, was proven to be the major Nr loss for two-thirds of the provinces and 80 % of the field observations. The contribution of runoff, which is dominant by precipitation, soil clay content and CEC, was gradually smaller than that of leaching from southeast to northwest. Ammonia and nitrous oxide contributed of 59.3 % âˆ¼ 65.4 % of TNr but 80.9 % âˆ¼ 81.5 % of total environmental damage caused by Nr in China. The use of nitrification inhibitors and straw return indicated pollution swapping among various Nr forms. This study emphasizes that the future practices to reduce total Nr loss need to account for local environmental conditions and have pollution swapping in sights.

ABSTRACT

SEL1L-mediated endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) plays critical roles in controlling protein homeostasis by degrading misfolded or terminal unfolded proteins. However, it remains unclear how SEL1L regulates peripheral T-cell survival and homeostasis. Herein, we found that SEL1L deficiency led to a greatly reduced frequency and number of mature T cells, which was further validated by adoptive transfer experiments or bone marrow chimera experiments, accompanied by the induction of multiple forms of cell death. Furthermore, SEL1L deficiency selectively disrupted naïve CD8+ T-cell homeostasis, as indicated by the severe loss of the naïve T-cell subset but an increase in the memory T-cell subset. We also found that SEL1L deficiency fueled mTORC1/c-MYC activation and induced a metabolic shift, which was largely attributable to enhanced expression of the IL-15 receptor α and ß chains. Mechanistically, single-cell transcriptomic profiling and biochemical analyses further revealed that Sel1l-/- CD8+ T cells harbored excessive ER stress, particularly aberrant activation of the PERK-ATF4-CHOP-Bim pathway, which was alleviated by supplementing IL-7 or IL-15. Importantly, PERK inhibition greatly resolved the survival defects of Sel1l-/- CD8+ T cells. In addition, IRE1α deficiency decreased mTORC1 signaling in Sel1l-/- naïve CD8+ T cells by downregulating the IL-15 receptor α chain. Altogether, these observations suggest that the ERAD adaptor molecule SEL1L acts as an important checkpoint for preserving the survival and homeostasis of peripheral T cells by regulating the PERK signaling cascade and IL-15 receptor-mediated mTORC1 axis.

ABSTRACT

In this study, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based on a deep learning algorithm was used to evaluate the clinical effect of the small-incision approach in treating proximal tibial fractures. Super-resolution reconstruction (SRR) algorithm was used to reconstruct MRI images for analysis and comparison. The research objects were 40 patients with proximal tibial fractures. According to the random number method, patients were divided into a small-incision approach group (22 cases) and an ordinary approach group (18 cases). The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and the structural similarity index (SSIM) of the MRI images before and after the reconstruction of the two groups were analyzed. The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, complete weight-bearing time, complete healing time, knee range of motion, and knee function of the two treatments were compared. The results showed that after SRR, the PSNR and SSIM of MRI images were 35.28 and 0.826 dB, respectively, so the MRI image display effect was better. The operation time in the small-incision approach group was 84.93 min, which was significantly shorter than that in the common approach group, and the intraoperative blood loss was 219.95 mL, which was significantly shorter than that in the common approach group (P < 0.05). The complete weight-bearing time and complete healing time in the small-incision approach group were 14.75 and 16.79 weeks, respectively, which were significantly shorter than those in the ordinary approach group (P < 0.05). The half-year knee range of motion and 1-year knee range of motion in the small-incision approach group were 118.27° and 128.72°, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the conventional approach group (P < 0.05). After 6 months of treatment, the rate of good treatment was 86.36% in the small-incision approach group and 77.78% in the ordinary approach group. After 1 year of treatment, the rate of excellent and good treatment was 90.91% in the small-incision approach group and 83.33% in the ordinary approach group. The rate of good treatment for half a year and 1 year in the small incision group was significantly higher than that in the common approach group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, MRI image based on deep learning algorithm has a high resolution, good display effect, and high application value. The small-incision approach can be applied to the treatment of proximal tibial fractures, which showed good therapeutic effects and a high positive clinical application value.

ABSTRACT

Bacterial infections pose a significant threat to global public health; therefore, the development of novel therapeutics is urgently needed. Herein, a controllable antibacterial nanoplatform utilizing cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks (CD-MOFs) as a template to synthesize ultrafine silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in their porous structure is constructed. Subsequently, polydopamine (PDA) is encapsulated on the CD-MOFs' surface via dopamine polymerization to enhance the water stability and enable hyperthermia capacity. The resulting Ag@MOF@PDA generates localized hyperthermia and gradually releases Ag+ to achieve long-term photothermal-chemical bactericidal capability. The release rate of Ag+ can be accelerated by NIR-mediated heating in a controllable manner, quickly reaching the effective concentration and reducing the frequency of medication to avoid potential toxicity. In vitro experiments demonstrate that the combined antibacterial strategy can not only effectively kill both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, but also directly eradicate mature biofilms. In vivo results confirm that both bacterial- and biofilm-infected wounds treated with a combination of Ag@MOF@PDA and laser exhibit satisfactory recovery with minimal toxicity, displaying a superior therapeutic effect compared to other groups. Together, the results warrant that the Ag@MOF@PDA realizes synergistic antibacterial capacity and controllable release of Ag+ to combat bacterial and biofilm infections, providing a potential antibiotic-free alternative in the "post-antibiotic era."

BACKGROUND: It has been demonstrated that cryoablation (Cryo) causes specific T-cell immune responses in the body; however, it is not sufficient to prevent tumor recurrence and metastasis. In this report, we evaluated changes in the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in distant tumor tissues after Cryo and investigated the immunosuppressive mechanisms that limit the efficacy of Cryo. METHODS: Bilateral mammary tumor models were established in mice, and we first observed the dynamic changes in immune cells and cytokines at different time points after Cryo. Then, we confirmed that the upregulation of PD-1 and PD-L1 signaling in the contralateral tumor tissue was closely related to the immunosuppressive state in the TIME at the later stage after Cryo. Finally, we also evaluated the synergistic antitumor effects of Cryo combined with PD-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) in the treatment of breast cancer (BC) mouse. RESULTS: We found that Cryo can stimulate the body's immune response, but it also induces immunosuppression. The elevated PD-1/PD-L1 expression in distant tumor tissues at the later stage after Cryo was closely related to the immunosuppressive state in the TIME but also created the conditions for Cryo combined with PD-1 mAb for BC mouse treatment. Cryo + PD-1 mAb could improve the immunosuppressive state of tumors and enhance the Cryo-induced immune response, thus exerting a synergistic antitumor effect. CONCLUSIONS: The PD-1/PD-L1 axis plays an important role in suppressing Cryo-induced antitumor immune responses. This study provides a theoretical basis for Cryo combined with PD-1 mAb therapy in clinical BC patients.

PURPOSE: Although the antidepressant effects of physical activity have been well established, the underlying psychological mechanisms are understudied among cancer survivors. The present study aims to examine the parallel mediating effects of posttraumatic growth and body image on the association between walking activity and emotional distress (anxiety and depression) among Chinese breast cancer survivors. METHODS: Chinese breast cancer survivors (n = 235) completed a cross-sectional questionnaire that assessed walking activity, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic growth, and body image over the past week. Path analysis was conducted to test the hypothesized mediation model. RESULTS: The hypothesized model was supported: walking activity was positively associated with posttraumatic growth and body image satisfaction, which were then negatively associated with anxiety and depression. After controlling for the mediators, the direct effect of physical activity on depression was still significant, whereas the direct effect of physical activity on anxiety was no longer significant. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that posttraumatic growth and body image may be essential psychological pathways underlying the association between walking activity and emotional distress among Chinese breast cancer survivors. Researchers and health practitioners should consider supplementing physical activity interventions with mental health services that facilitate psychological growth and a positive body image to enhance the potential psychological benefits of physical activity.

PURPOSE: The elevated physical symptom burden in advanced lung cancer can disrupt patients' emotional well-being, and current literature suggests that physicians' good communication skills might be a buffer. However, little is known about for which group of patients this buffering effect is most effective. Based on a cross-sectional study in patients with advanced lung cancer, the present study examined whether the moderating effect of physicians' communication skills on the association between physical symptoms and emotional distress would further depend on patients' perceived disease understanding. METHODS: Patients with advanced lung cancer (n = 199) completed a questionnaire including measures of physical symptoms related to lung cancer, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, perceptions of physicians' communication skills, and self-reported understanding of their disease. RESULTS: Hierarchical regression analyses indicated a significant three-way interaction among physical symptoms, perceptions of physicians' communication skills, and perceived disease understanding on both anxiety and depression. Specifically, physicians' good communication skills exerted a buffering effect only for patients with lower levels of disease understanding. CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that improving physicians' communication skills may be especially beneficial for reducing the maladaptive emotional reactions to symptom burden for patients with limited disease understanding. When time and resources for communication are restricted, enhanced awareness and focused training may be directed at communicating with patients who possess limited knowledge about their disease.

BACKGROUND: Nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (abbreviated as NEAT1) is a long-chain noncoding RNA involved in various physiological and pathological processes. This study aimed to clarify the effect and molecule system of NEAT1 within non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as well as type 2 diabetes (T2DM). METHODS: In this review, current studies concerning mechanisms of NEAT1l, in the development of type 2 diabetes and its complications have been summarized and analyzed. Also, we searched the papers based on NEAT1 related to NAFLD. The related studies were obtained through a systematic search of Pubmed. RESULTS: NEAT1 displays a close correlation with how T2DM occurs and develops, and it was confirmed to be significantly up-regulated in T2DM and its various complications (e.g., diabetics nephropathy, diabetics cardiomyopathy, diabetics retinopathy as well as diabetic neuropathy). Besides, NEAT1 is capable of impacting the occurrence, development and prognosis of NAFLD and T2DM. CONCLUSION: LncRNA NEAT1 is likely to act as a novel therapeutic target for T2DM and its complications. Moreover, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is also correlated with NEAT1.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescent smoking is a serious public health concern, and the role of personnel in reducing students'tobacco use has been proven. Anti-tobacco policies are strong factors for tobacco control but most are newly implemented in China. This study aimed to examine the awareness of anti-tobacco policies among school personnel in a southern city of China, and assess its influence on personnel's anti-tobacco attitudes and behaviors towards students. METHODS: An online cross-sectional study was conducted between September 2017 and January 2018 in schools of Shanghai, China. A total of 3194 subjects from 33 schools were selected by a two-stage stratified cluster randomized sampling design. Prevalence of anti-tobacco policy awareness is presented. Crude (ORs) and adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated to assess the association between policy awareness and anti-tobacco attitudes or behaviors. RESULTS: In all, 22.4% of surveyed participants knew four or five polices presented in the survey and 13.0% of personnel knew none of these policies. Most of the participants fully support prohibiting indoor (94.6%) and outdoor (86.3%) smoking in public places, bans on tobacco advertising (90.9%), and printing warning pictures on cigarette boxes (89.5%). Less than half of the personnel had taken action to stop students from smoking (45.7%), encourage students to quit smoking (42.4%) or participated in relevant educational activities held by schools (37.4%) in the previous year. The school personnel's anti-tobacco attitudes (AOR=1.28; 95% CI: 1.21-1.36) and behaviors (AOR=1.10; 95% CI: 1.03-1.17) were strengthened with increasing level of policy awareness. CONCLUSIONS: The involvement of school personnel can be an important part of intervention to improve anti-tobacco campaigns on campus. The study calls for the implementation of projects or activities to improve anti-tobacco policy awareness in the school environment as part of school tobacco control strategy.

ABSTRACT

E-cigarettes are widely advertised, while the potential risks of e-cigarette use have been reported among adolescents. This study assessed online e-cigarette information exposure and its association with adolescents' e-cigarette use in Shanghai, China. A total of 12,470 students aged 13-18 years participated. A questionnaire collected information on students' sociodemographic factors, e-cigarette information exposure, cigarette use, e-cigarette use, and e-cigarette use intention. A multivariate logistic regression was performed to assess correlates of exposure to e-cigarette information and the association between e-cigarette information exposure and e-cigarette use. Overall, 73.9% of students knew about e-cigarettes and the primary sources of information were the internet (42.4%), movies/TV (36.4%), bulletin boards in retail stores or supermarkets (34.9%), advertising flyers (33.9%), and friends (13.8%). Students who had friends using e-cigarettes were curious about e-cigarettes and showed a greater monthly allowance; smokers and females were at a higher risk of social media and website exposure. Moreover, online information exposure (social media exposure, website exposure, and total internet exposure) was significantly associated with the intention to use e-cigarettes. The enforcement of regulations on online e-cigarette content should be implemented. Moreover, efforts to prevent young people from using e-cigarettes may benefit from targeting students at a higher risk of online e-cigarette information exposure.

BACKGROUND: Family relationships affect psychological adjustment and quality of life (QoL) in patients with advanced cancer. The typology of family relationships has not been examined in Chinese patients with advanced cancer. OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study were to identify profiles of family relationships and examine their relationships with psychological distress and QoL in Chinese patients with advanced lung cancer. METHODS: A total of 252 Chinese patients with advanced lung cancer at 2 hospitals in Shanghai participated in the study. They completed self-reported questionnaires. Latent profile analysis was used to identify the optimal classification of perceived family relationships based on 3 indicators (cohesiveness, expressiveness, and conflict resolution). RESULTS: Three profiles of family relationships were identified. The supportive profile (70.6%) showed high cohesiveness, expressiveness, and conflict resolution. The low-expressive profile (15.9%) showed low expressiveness but high cohesiveness and conflict resolution (15.9%). The conflictive profile (13.5%) showed low conflict resolution but high cohesiveness and expressiveness. Compared with supportive families, low-expressive and conflictive families were associated with worse depressive symptoms and anxiety symptoms, which could result in poorer QoL. CONCLUSIONS: Cohesiveness, expressiveness, and conflict resolution could be used to identify family relationship typology in Chinese patients with advanced lung cancer. Family relationship typology was associated with psychological distress and QoL. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: The findings indicate a need for screening families and provide culturally sensitive family interventions to effectively support families at risk of poor outcomes.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: School closures and home confinement due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may lead to disrupted sleep patterns. Consequently, it could increase the risk of children and adolescents' mental health disorders. METHODS: In this prospective study, we randomly selected ten schools in Shanghai and conducted cluster sampling of students from each school. The first wave of the survey was conducted between January 3 and 21, 2020. Approximately two months after the COVID-19 outbreak declared, a second wave of the survey was conducted. In total, 2427 individuals were surveyed in both waves using the same sampling method. Participants' mental health status (depression, anxiety and stress), sleep patterns and other demographic information were measured in both waves. Multivariate regression analysis was used to examine the associations between sleep patterns and mental health status. RESULTS: During the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 873 participants (19.9%), 1100 participants (25.1%), and 670 participants (15.3%) reported depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms, respectively. Significant changes of both sleep duration and sleep-wake cycle patterns were observed before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, shorter sleep duration and late to rise patterns (including early to bed late to rise and late to bed late to rise) were found to be associated with higher odds of having mental illnesses during the pandemic. CONCLUSION: These results suggest there is a pressing need to monitor children's and adolescents' health behavior and mental health and develop timely evidence-based strategies and interventions to mitigate adverse behavioral and psychological impacts caused by these unprecedented challenges.

ABSTRACT

The protection of unstable anticancer molecules and their delivery to lesions are challenging issues in cancer treatment. Topotecan (TPT), a classic cytotoxic drug, is widely used for treating refractory lung cancer. However, the therapeutic effects of TPT are jeopardized by its active lactone form that is intrinsically hydrolyzed in physiological fluids, resulting in low bioavailability. Herein, the TPT-loaded crosslinked cyclodextrin metal-organic framework (TPT@CL-MOF) was engineered to improve the local bioavailability of TPT for the treatment of lung cancer. CL-MOF exhibited the efficient loading (12.3 wt%) of TPT with sustained release characteristics. In particular the formulation offered excellent protection in vitro against hydrolysis and increased the half-life of TPT from approximately 0.93 h to 22.05 h, which can be attributed to the host-guest interaction between cyclodextrin and TPT, as confirmed by molecular docking. The TPT@CL-MOF could effectively kill the cancer cells and inhibit the migration and invasion of B16F10 cells in vitro. Moreover, TPT@CL-MOF was efficiently distributed in the lungs after intravenous administration. In an in vivo study using a B16F10 pulmonary metastatic tumor model, TPT@CL-MOF significantly reduced the number and size of metastatic lung nodules at a reduced low dose by five times, and no noticeable side effects were observed. Therefore, this study provides a possible alternative therapy for the treatment of lung cancer with the camptothecin family drugs or other unstable therapeutically significant molecules.

ABSTRACT

Poor nutrition or insufficient physical activity (PA) are risk factors for obesity and chronic diseases. This 2019 cross-sectional study from the school health survey examined the dietary and PA behaviors of Chinese adolescents. A total of 12,860 adolescents aged 11-18 participated through multistage and stratified cluster random sampling. A questionnaire collected data on weight, PA, sedentary lifestyle, and eating habits. Unhealthy behaviors were identified and summed up for each behavior. Participants were then classified into high and low amounts of risk behaviors. Weight status was defined using Body Mass Index (BMI) cutoff points for Chinese individuals aged 6-18. Multinomial logistic regression was used to assess effects of lifestyle behaviors on weight status. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 22.3% among all participants (30.6% in boys, 13.2% in girls). Females engaged in more risk physical activities (4.12 vs. 3.80, p < 0.05), while males engaged in more risk dietary activities (2.20 vs. 2.02, p < 0.05). Higher number of risk dietary, PA, and sedentary behaviors were all significantly correlated with higher BMI (dietary: r = 0.064; PA: r = 0.099; sedentary: r = 0.161; p < 0.001 for all) and body weight (dietary: r = 0.124; PA: r = 0.128; sedentary: r = 0.222; p < 0.001 for all). Risk sedentary behaviors was a significant risk factor for overweight/obesity (Adjusted Odds Ratio AOR = 1.30, 95% Confidence Interval CI 1.11-1.52). Obesity and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors remain a concern among Chinese adolescents. These results provide an update on the factors contributing to overweight/obesity among adolescents and call for efforts to address obesity among adolescents.
